Earth Day Field Trip-Petcoke Waste Site

April 28, 2014 @ 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Dear LSTC students and community:

We have a few extra places on the bus! You are welcome to join Dr. Richard Perry’s “Ethics” class, and the “Future of Creation” class, this Monday evening for April 28 “Earth Week” field trip. We will visit the huge “petcoke” piles that are waste from the Canadian tar sands refining process, and we will connect energy issues of our course with an urgent Chicago environmental justice issue.

Watch this brief video about the petcoke, including portions filmed at a Town Hall meeting at the church where Prof. Kadi Billman’s husband is pastor:

A school bus will come to LSTC so we can all ride together. We will be guided by staff from the Southeast Environmental Taskforce. A brief de-briefing will follow the tour, arriving back at LSTC by 9:30 pm.

Please email me if you want to join us so we can make sure there are enough spots on the bus.

Meet at the LSTC front desk at 5:30 pm to start loading up; bus will depart at 5:45 pm.

All are welcome! Just let me know.
